Some of the longest EV trips in Tamil Nadu are family trips: a wedding three towns away, a temple circuit, a weekend in the hills. They also come with long stops — and a long stop is the best time to charge on AC power.
Charge while you're inside
NearPlug's Destination Pass gives you 5 hours of charging for ₹279 on a 16A socket (about 17 kWh) or ₹499 on a 7.2 kW wallbox (about 36 kWh). That covers a wedding muhurtham and lunch, or a long darshan queue.
On the way through, the Quick Boost gives you 60 minutes — from ₹99 — over a meal break.
Plan the trip
- Check where you'll stop. Say Hi to NearPlug and share a pin at your destination — the wedding hall, the temple town — rather than where you are now. You'll see spots within 30 km of that pin.
- Request when you're about an hour out. The host has 5 minutes to accept, and your arrival window stretches with the drive, so a longer trip never counts as a no-show.
- Charge before hill roads. Ghat roads to Ooty, Kodaikanal or Yercaud use a lot of energy on the way up. Top up in the town at the foot of the hill.
- Bring the right cable. For 16A spots, carry the portable charger that came with your EV. Wallbox spots say whether the host provides a cable.
