How to earn from your home EV socket or wallbox

What NearPlug hosts earn per session, what the electricity costs, how payouts reach your UPI ID, and the exact WhatsApp steps to list a 16A socket or wallbox.

If you have off-street parking and a 16A socket or an AC wallbox, you can rent it to EV drivers by the session. You don't need an app or a new charger — NearPlug runs on WhatsApp, and drivers with a 16A spot bring their own portable charger.

What you earn

ChargerQuick Boost · 60 minDestination Pass · 5 hours
16A Socket (3.3 kW)₹99host earns ₹79₹279host earns ₹229
AC Wallbox (7.2 kW)₹199host earns ₹169₹499host earns ₹409

Prices are fixed by NearPlug so drivers know exactly what they'll pay; your payout is the driver price minus the platform fee.

And what the electricity costs you

A rough guide at an example tariff of ₹8 per unit (kWh) — check your own bill, as tariffs vary by slab and connection:

  • 16A Socket, 60 min: about 3 kWh ≈ ₹24 of electricity against a ₹79 payout.
  • 16A Socket, 5 hours: about 17 kWh ≈ ₹136 of electricity against a ₹229 payout.
  • AC Wallbox, 60 min: about 7 kWh ≈ ₹56 of electricity against a ₹169 payout.
  • AC Wallbox, 5 hours: about 36 kWh ≈ ₹288 of electricity against a ₹409 payout.

These are upper bounds — an EV stops drawing power once its battery is full, and some sessions use less than the full time.

₹3,611 / month

₹79 per Quick Boost, ₹229 per Destination Pass, paid to your UPI after each session. Electricity cost not deducted.

How payouts work

  • The driver pays NearPlug's payment partner (Razorpay) by UPI after you accept.
  • The money is held until the session ends, then your share is sent to the UPI ID you registered.
  • If the driver cancels after paying or doesn't turn up within the arrival window, you receive a ₹50 lockout fee for holding the spot.
  • If the power cuts out mid-session, you're paid for the minutes actually charged.

How to list your charger

  1. Send HOST to NearPlug on WhatsApp.
  2. Answer the questions one by one: your name, a name for the spot, charger type (16A socket or wallbox), whether you provide a cable, a location pin, the address with city, state and PIN, a landmark and gate instructions.
  3. Add your UPI ID for payouts and your PAN for the payment partner's mandatory KYC. Your PAN is passed straight to the payment partner and isn't stored by NearPlug.
  4. Confirm. We review every spot before it goes live, and message you when it's verified.

Running your spot

  • Each request arrives on WhatsApp with the driver's vehicle and rating. Tap Accept or Decline — you have 5 minutes (15 when several hosts are asked at once).
  • When the driver arrives and plugs in, they tell you a 4-digit OTP. Enter it to start the timer.
  • Reply BUSY to pause requests and AVAILABLE to resume, any time.
  • Hosts who repeatedly miss accepted bookings are flagged and can be unlisted, so pause when you're away.

Before you list a socket, run through the 16A socket safety checklist.
